Your Top Questions About Facial Fillers, Answered

Facial fillers are among the most popular and most effective ways to give you a younger, more rested look, and the results settle in quickly. Many people are still hesitant about facial filler injections, though, because they have unanswered questions about the treatment. That’s why our medical aesthetics specialists and cosmetic injectors at MadEmEl Medical Aesthetics always start with a complimentary consultation to find the ideal filler for you and answer any questions you may have.

To help you have a better idea of what to expect even before your consultation, our experts are answering some of the top questions we hear from patients about facial fillers.

What Areas Can Facial Fillers Improve?

Facial fillers or dermal fillers like Restylane®, Juvederm®, Belotero Balance, Sculptra®, and Revanesse®, are highly versatile products we can use to target many signs of aging and cosmetic concerns. Because they work by adding youthful volume, we use them for any wrinkles that form because of a loss of volume in the skin, including smile lines or “parentheses” around your mouth and vertical lines above your upper lip.

We also use facial fillers to restore volume to facial hollows, like hollows in your cheeks or under your eyes. In this way, they can reduce some dark circles under the eyes. On top of this, facial fillers are popular for adding volume to thin lips or for improving the symmetry of your lips.

Are Botox® and Dysport® Facial Fillers?

People often lump Botox® or Dysport® together with facial fillers because both types of treatments are injections that reduce wrinkles. They’re actually very different treatment options that work in different ways, though.

Botox® and Dysport® work by relaxing muscles, so they’re effective for expression lines and wrinkles that are caused by years of making repeated facial expressions, leading to tensed facial muscles that pinch your skin into a line or wrinkle. This includes crow’s feet, frown lines between the brows, and forehead lines. Dermal fillers, on the other hand, work by adding youthful volume so they are ideal for different types of wrinkles and purposes than Botox® and Dysport®.

Why Do Some Facial Filler Results Look Natural and Others Don’t?

We’ve all seen times when someone had facial filler injections that didn’t look natural, but you’ve also seen many facial filler results that looked very natural (in fact, you’ve probably seen these results more than you realize because they look so natural that you don’t realize the person had any treatment done). Why is there so much variation among the results?

It all comes down to the results that you want and the skills of your injector. Some patients actually prefer a more pronounced look while most prefer that their results look very natural. Our injectors discuss your goals so we can provide the precise look you want.

Why Do I Need to Regularly Refresh My Facial Filler Injections?

You may have heard that if you want to maintain your facial fillers, you’ll need to keep up with getting regular treatments. This is the case because your body will gradually metabolize the fillers over time, so your results gradually fade.

How often do you need a new filler injection? It depends. Most fillers last about 9-12 months, though some newer fillers can last up to 18 months. At your consultation, your injector will explain how long you can expect your results to last and when you’ll want to plan for a new treatment. However, every person’s body metabolizes dermal fillers at a different rate, so each person’s results can last for a different length of time.

Facial fillers are an extremely popular and effective way to refresh or perfect your look at nearly any age, and our experienced specialists at MadEmEl Medical Aesthetics can give you a gorgeous look you’ll enjoy for months. Book your free consultation with us today at our Lawrenceville location to discuss your specific goals and how we can help.
