The appearance of spider veins or varicose veins on the legs is a common aesthetic issue, but thankfully there are proven and effective treatment options for this concern. Here at MadEmEl Medical Aesthetics, we offer Asclera® spider vein treatment, a new FDA-approved method for addressing spider veins and small varicose veins on the legs. In order to help prospective patients gain a better understanding of what this outstanding treatment is capable of, and who it can benefit from, we wanted to answer a few common questions about the treatment below.
Question #1: What causes the appearance of spider veins and varicose veins in the legs?
Spider veins and varicose develop when the tiny valves inside the veins weaken or are damaged. Normally, these valves push blood in one direction towards the heart. However, they can weaken over time causing a small amount of blood to accumulate in the vein. This excess blood puts pressure on the walls of the vein, leading to the appearance of a varicose or spider vein. Some people, including those with a family history of spider veins, may be more likely to develop them.
Question #2: How long does each Asclera® vein treatment session last?
Asclera® vein treatment sessions are quick. Normally they can last between 15 and 45 minutes depending on the patient, the degree of the veins being treated, and the number of injections required to properly treat them. In most cases, more than one treatment session will be required to achieve the desired result. Treatment sessions should be separated by 1 to 2 weeks.
Question #3: How long will I need to recover following an Asclera® spider vein treatment?
No downtime for recovery should be required. We may instruct a patient to wear a compression garment in the days following their treatment to help promote the best long-term results. There may be some degree of bruising or even cramping in the treated legs for a day or two following treatment, but this will be minor and temporary. Patients are typically able to resume their normal daily activities immediately following an Asclera® treatment. Though it’s important to protect the treated areas from sun exposure in the days following treatment.
We are always so excited to be able to add a new cosmetic treatment to our selection and believe firmly in the power of Asclera® spider vein treatment to provide our patients with the safe and dependable results that they deserve.
